Thursday, November 28, an Istanbul court gave a suspended sentence of five months in prison to Cihat Akbel.
Cihat Akbel is popular on Twitter with about 36,590 followers.
He openly criticized singer Aylin Aslim creating a well known ironic hashtag "#apologizesaylinaslim" ("özürdoleaylinaslim " in Turkish).
He wrote on his twitter account " We must go to his concert and throw a sickle at her head.", Aylin Aslim thought that this could turn into a lynching campaign, she filed a complaint against him, she sued him for making threats.
Wednesday, April 27, an Istanbul court accepted the charges and found Cihat Akbel guilty of committing a crime on the internet which justified the sentence after the trial lasted 18 months.
In response to the verdict, Cihat Akbel said that he wrote that ironically and he had no intention of threatening Aylin Aslim.
The verdict caused a storm on Twitter, with hundreds tweeting in support for Akbel. Some people complain of a violation of freedom of expression.
Islamic-conservative Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan Tyyip is an opponent of social networks. He called Twitter "a troublemaker " Twitter is a privileged instrument of communication for protesters demanding his resignation.

Jeudi 28 novembre, un tribunal d'Istanbul a condamné à cinq mois de prison avec sursis Cihat Akbel.
Cihat Akbel est populaire sur Twitter où il compte 36.590 abonnés.
Il a critiqué ouvertement la chanteuse Aylin Aslim en créant le hashtag "apologizesaylinaslim".
Il a écrit sur son compte Twitter "Il faut aller à ses concerts et lui lancer une faucille à la tête", Aylin Aslmi a pensé que cela pouvait devenir une compagne dirigée contre elle, elle a porté plainte pour menace.
Mercredi 27 novembre, un tribunal d'Istanbul a reconnu Akbel coupable d’avoir commis un délit sur internet, ce qui justifie les cinq mois de prison avec sursis après un procès qui a duré 18 mois.
Après le verdict, Cihat Akbel a déclaré qu'il avait écrit cela de façon ironique et qu'il n'avait aucune intention de menacer Aylin Aslim.
Le verdict a déclenché une tempête sur Twitter, avec des centaines de tweets de soutien à Akbel. Certains dénonçant une atteinte à la liberté d'expression.
Le premier ministre islamo-conservateur Recep Tayyip Erogan est un adversaire des réseaux sociaux. Il a qualifié Twitter de "fauteur de trouble", Twitter est un intrument de communication privilégié des militants qui demandent sa démission.
