Kurdish Rebels released
Tuesday 20 October
Yesterday a judge decided to release five Kurdish militants who had entered Turkey as part of a PKK “peace group”.
The five Kurds had been welcome by many supporters of the PKK when they crossed the frontier from Iraq.
According to the Turkish Government The PKK is a terrorist organization and its leader Abdullah Ocalan has been imprisoned since 1999.
The PKK has been struggling for 25 years to obtain the autonomy of south-east Turkey in a war that has claimed 40,000 lives.
Now, Turkey is seeking a peaceful solution to stop this war and two months ago, Mr. Erdogan, the Prime Minister elaborated a peace plan but he didn't detail the measures of the peace package. He wanted to be supported by the opposition.
The peace plan proposed to make a bigger place to Kurdish culture and to free all prisoners. But Turkish nationalist politicians claim they do not want to give in to Kurdish terrorists.
