Political discount
On Monday 11 February, 2019, the Turkish authorities opened their own discount sales stands in the markets. They claim these should be fair prices compared to those asked by all the retailers imposed recently.
According to the Turkish government, destroying economic competition at this point has only one objective: to denounce the "unjustified" price increase of traders who seek to take advantage of the population.
However, for opponents and traders, it would only be a plot staged to curry favor with voters before the local elections that will take place in March.
Traders justify themselves by saying that if prices increase, it is because of increase of oil and labor costs. They also say that the government wages unfair competition war by proposing prices two times cheaper than normal and they claim this "plot" will eventually be financed not by the state but by the traders themselves. Some of them want to stage a protest against the president.
Des prix imbattables
Lundi 11 février 2019, les autorités turques ont ouvert leurs propres stands sur les marchés à des prix défiant toute concurrence indiquant qu’il s’agirait du prix normal face à ceux que tous les détaillants que les commerçants imposent depuis peu.
Selon le gouvernement, cette initiative n'a qu'un seul objectif : dénoncer la hausse des prix « non justifiée » pratiquée par des commerçants qui recherchent le profit.
Cependant, pour les opposants et les commerçants, ce ne serait qu'une manœuvre ayant pour unique but de gagner des voix aux élections locales qui auront lieu en mars.
Les commerçants se justifient en disant que si les prix augmentent, c'est à cause de la hausse des prix du carburant ou de la main d’œuvre. Ils affirment également que le gouvernement leur fait une concurrence déloyale en proposant des prix deux fois moins chers que la normale et que ce seront eux qui devront payer ce mauvais tour.
