Erdogan uses little girl as political prop

Saturday in the southern Turkish city of Kahramanmaras, at a meeting, broadcast on television, with his Party for Justice and Development (AKP), Mr. Erdogan invited a little girl wearing a maroon beret and dressed in military style camouflage to get on stage with him; She seemed to cry as she walked to the podium.

Observing that she had a Turkish flag in her pocket, Erdogan told the crowd: “If she is martyred, they will put a flag on her, God willing; She would be honored if she died in battle”.

He added referring to the beret worn by the Turkish special forces "Look what you see here, my daughter, what are you doing here, we have our maroon berets here, but the maroon berets never cry"
The maroon berets are fighting in Afrin, a Syrian city that the Turks are trying to take from the Kurds.

Amid the applause, supporters in the audience chanted, "Chief, take us to Afrin," reported news agencies. Mr. Erdogan thanked the volunteers before he said the Turkish army had professional soldiers.

Since the beginning of Operation Afrin, the government has been organizing a campaign of support for the war, saluting those who fell in battle and granting them the honor of the martyrs.
Mr. Erdogan promises to protect Turkey and fight against terrorism, people sustain him.
This is not the first time that Erdogan creates a controversy by considering each soldier or policeman killed in service as a martyr.

The Turkish press under the government's watch was not shocked, several media reported that Mr. Erdogan had consoled the crying little girl.

On their side some social networks criticized Mr. Erdogan, thinking the speech on martyrdom inappropriate for a child so young. Some Turkish news agencies said the girl hadbeen used as a political accessory.

Samedi dans la ville de Kahramanmaras, dans le sud de la Turquie, lors d’un meeting de son Parti pour la Justice et le Développement (AKP) retransmis à la télévision, Mr Erdogan a invité une petite fille portant un béret marron et une tenue militaire à monter sur scène auprès de lui. Elle semblait pleurer en marchant vers le podium.

Observant que celle-ci avait un drapeau turc dans la poche, Erdogan dit à la foule :« si elle meurt en martyr, ils l’envelopperont dans un drapeau, si Dieu le veut. Quel honneur,si elle mourait en combattant. »

Il a ajouté en se référant au béret porté par les forces spéciales turques « Regarde ce que tu vois ici, ma fille, ce que tu fais ici, nous avons nos bérets marrons ici, mais les bérets marrons ne pleurent jamais »

Les bérets marrons se battent à Afrin, une ville syrienne que les Turcs tentent de prendre aux Kurdes.

Au milieu des applaudissements, les partisans scandaient : « Chef, emmène-nous à Afrin, » ont rapporté des agences de presse. Mr Erdogan a remercié les volontaires mais a déclaré que l’armée turque avait des soldats professionnels.

Depuis le début de l’Opération Afrin, le gouvernement organise une campagne de soutien à la guerre saluant ceux qui sont tombés au combat et en leur accordant les honneursdus aux martyrs.

Mr Erdogan promet de protéger la Turquie et de lutter contre le terrorisme avec le soutien de l’opinion publique.

Ce n’est pas la première fois qu’Erdogan provoque une polémique en considérant chaque soldat ou policier tué en service comme martyr.

La presse turque sous la coupe du gouvernement n’a pas été choquée, plusieurs médias ont rapporté que Mr Erdogan avait consolé la petite fille en pleurs.

De leur côté, certains réseaux sociaux ont critiqué Mr Erdogan, estimant le discours sur le martyr inapproprié pour une enfant si jeune. Certaines agences de presse turques ont déclaré que la petite fille avait été utilisé comme instrument de propagande.
