Syrian jihadist group brings war closer
Four Turkmen commanders were killed in an attack claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq
and the Levant (ISIL), this suicide bombing was carried out in northern
Aleppo’s Cobanbey district, near the Turkish
border.
Clashes have been ongoing between ISIL and Syrian
Turkmen groups for more than ten days, in the Turkmen populated town. The town
has been captured by ISIL militants recently. According to local sources, the
ISIL had originally offered to negotiate and to settle the dispute, after its
predominantly Turkmen population began a counterattack against the Al-Qaeda
linked group.
The army said the attack, carried out Jan. 28, came
after two Turkish military vehicles had been fired upon at the Çobanbey border
post near the southeastern town of Kilis.
During the meeting with the Turkmen group, one ISIL
representative exploded a device he was carrying, blew himself up, killing four
Syrian Turkmen commanders among them Abdulmunim Kalendir Ebu Islam and Imad
Diman.The Turkish army said last week it had opened fire on a convoy of
vehicles in northern Syria belonging to ISIL.
Hamid Ahmed Fayad, a representative of the Syrian
Turkmen Muhammad Fatih Brigade, said that four ISIL delegates met with Turkmen
representatives, demanding certain guarantees before they withdrew their men
from the area.
Opinion:
ISIL recently threatened the
Turkish Prime Minister Mr. Erdoğan. The Islamic organization wants to take revenge on Turkey because of its
support for the free Syrian army (FSA). ISIL captured cities near the Turkish
border since the beginning of January.
These facts show that after the failure of the peace
meeting in Genève, the Syrian civil war which has been raging for 3 years threatens to expand beyond its
borders.

Les djihadistes syriens frappent à la porte de la
Turquie
Quatre commandants turcomans (citoyens syriens d’origine turque oghouze) ont été tués dans
une attaque revendiquée par l’Etat Islamique en Irak et au Levant (EIIL), un
groupe apparenté à Al-Qaeda. Cet attentat suicide a été mené au nord d’Alep, à Çobanbey une ville située près de la
frontièreturque.
Les affrontements se poursuivent entre l’EIIL et les groupes turcomans syriens depuis plus de dix jours
autour de Çobanbey. La ville a été priserécemment
par des militants de l’EIIL. Selon
les sources locales, l’EIIL avait initialement proposé de négocier en vain afin de régler les
différends avec la population majoritairement turcomane. Les milices locales ont alors lancé une
contre-attaque contre les militants islamistes.
Pendant la rencontre avec le groupe
turcoman, un représentant de L’EIIL s’est fait exploser, tuant également quatre
commandants turcomans syriens, parmi eux Abdulmunim Kalendir Ebu, et Imad
Diman. L’armée turque a déclaré la semaine dernière qu’elle avait ouvert le feu sur un convoi
de véhicules appartenant à l’EIIL dans le
nord de la Syrie.
Hamid Ahmed Fayad, un représentant des
Turcomans Muhammad Fatih Brigade a affirmé que quatre délégués de l’EIIL avaient rencontré des
représentants turcomans, exigeant certaines garanties avant de retirer
leurs hommes de la région.
L’armée confirme que l’attaque menée le 28
janvier a eu lieu après que deux véhicules militaires turcs ont été attaqués au
poste frontière de Çobanbey près de la ville, au sud-est de Kilis.
Opinion :
L’EIIL a récemment menacé le Premier
ministre turc M. Erdoğan.
L’organisation veut prendre sa revanche sur la Turquie pour son soutien à
l’Armée syrienne libre (FSA) et à la coalition.
L’EIIL contrôle plusieurs
villes proches de la frontière avec la Turquie depuis début janvier. Ces faits montrent qu’après l’échec de
la conférence de paix à Genève, la guerre civile syrienne qui dure depuis près
de trois ans menace de s’étendre au-delà des
frontières syriennes.
