A wall between the European Union and Turkey
Two days ago, Greece and Bulgaria announced they wanted to build a fence along the Turkish border, causing outrage in Turkey.
The reasons for this project are, according to Greece to stop the flow of nearly 11,000 illegal migrants each year and to Bulgaria, to take steps against foot-and-mouth disease.
Turkish Center for International Relations and Strategic Analysis Chairman Sinan Oğan said that fence-building plan was similar to the Berlin Wall or Israel's West Bank barrier. He thinks that this line between these countries is a line between two different worlds, Christianity and Islam.
But some people, like Mustafa Yardımcı a board member of Turkey's Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges, think that Bulgaria couldn't build a fence along its border with Turkey because it would be extremely costly and would fail to prevent animals from crossing the border.
Bulgaria is free of foot-and-mouth disease. But, even if they build this wall, the animals will find an opening and cross the border. So the wall would be useless against this disease.
Bulgaria and Greece would have to erect many kilometers of fencing - about 143-kilometer for Bulgaria and 206-kilometer for Greece - they need money from the European Union for the construction.
My opinion:
Obviously Greece and Bulgaria didn't ask Turkey's opinion about this fence, and this may lead to further conflicts between the EU and Turkey.

Il y a deux jours, la Grèce et la Bulgarie ont annoncé leur projet de construire une clôture le long de la frontière turque, ce qui a fait scandale en Turquie.
Les raisons de ce projet sont, d'après la Grèce, de stopper l’afflux de près de 11.000 immigrants clandestins chaque année et, selon la Bulgarie, de prendre des mesures de protection contre la fièvre aphteuse.
Selon Sinan Oğan, expert en relations internationales, ce mur serait semblable à celui de Berlin et à celui qui sépare Israël et la Cisjordanie. Il pense que cette démarcation entre ces pays serait une séparation entre le Christianisme et l'Islam.
Mais certaines personnes, comme Mustafa Yardimci, un des administrateurs de la Chambre de Commerce, la Bulgarie ne pourra pas construire ce mur car c'est un projet extrêmement coûteux, de plus elle n'est pas sûre de pouvoir vraiment empêcher les animaux de traverser la frontière.
